Active Week

A week full of activity

Looks forward to quieter times

Able to get back creativity

Find my voice again in rhymes

Boss moving to another state

She’ll be gone in several weeks

Wish her well despite my fate

Loss provokes pain, and weeps

After months of mockery

House impeaches our Governor

Finally cutting off the artery

That caused so much dishonor

Jury duty summons

Sat all day to be questioned

Few weeks long trial heightens

Picked as juror, I’ve been sanctioned

Weekend arrived gradual

Enjoy the time off from career

Await for America’s day of football

Celebrate with snacks and beers

Okay, I couldn’t wait. I received this award from Writer In Waiting. It was a surprise to say the least and a wonderful gesture for her to pass this along to me. Thank you, Kimmi, if anything, I know someone is reading my blog. LOL!

Unknown Destination


Writing is an unknown destination
Unsure of where it will take you;
It’s spiritual, an individual faith
Challenging ideas and your limits

Smell of paper invokes imagination
Full of plot twists while characters accrue;
Pen moves detailing settings and faces,
Protagonist’s ventures with misfits

They argue and ultimately take control
Minds of their own, unaware of what they’ll do;
An oarless boat turned out to sea
Rocking with waves of joy and woes

Driving along until you hit a pothole
Press on; you succeed in avoiding an early adieu
Smile knowing there is no guarantee,
But aware you just wrote wonderful prose

A Change We Need

Many people dislike change because they grow comfortable with what they're accustom to, good or bad, or because change represents the unknown. But here we all wait for inauguration day, along with the rest of the world, and our hopes embrace change. Whether we supported this soon-to-be President, we find ourselves wanting the unknown. To get relief from these hard economic times, and bring us together again as The Free Country we once were in strength.

Abraham Lincoln said, "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced." How wrong President Lincoln had been with that statement. The living remembered and so many have died fighting for causes supported by our Constitution. There is still so much more work to be done, but I believe Obama's change will move us forward." Maybe President Lincoln had Obama in mind when he said, "that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom... " That's how I see this new Presidency, as a new birth of freedom, not just regarding color, but for birthing change and making it work for every person in America.

I am an Obama supporter, and find him to be symbolic. He has black and white blood running through his veins blending us together to promote a colorless country. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "In a sense we have come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir... But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficent funds in the grat vaults of opportunity of this nation." Martin Luther King Jr. must have heard President Lincoln and pushed forward to cash that check opening doors and giving Barack Obama this opportunity to lead our country. It also means, as Americans, we are all responsible in upholding our forefathers' words and working to make a positive change.

I wish the Obama's well in their new home and will pray their safety isn't jeopardized because some fear change.

Dreams

As children and teens, we all had our dreams of what we wanted to be when we grew up. Well, we’re grown up, and many of us didn’t become our dream until now. Here’s your chance to live out your dream. Did you want to be an astronaut? You got it you’re an astronaut floating in space looking at gray shades of earth. Did you want to be a doctor? You got it you’re a doctor performing your 100th open heart surgery. The sky is the limit.


For me, when I grew up I wanted to be a rockstar. I had my first recording at the age of three singing The 59th Street Bridge by Simon and Garfunkel, and it continued on. Our living room, rec room and bedroom was my stage as the music played and I sang with my favorite singer. When I was 16-years old, I sang with a band a few times at summer fests. I think I love music and singing so much because I connect and feel the words so deep. It’s an escape and a way for me to imagine another place or time.


Now, I’m backstage listening to the crowd, my fans, chant my name. The noise is thick, and I have to take a deep breath before making my way out onto the stage. I can see hands flying around, fans screaming my name, and at the moment I know I’m home. Taking a step forward, I place my hands on the cold metal and feel the microphone just inches away. All the band members stare out into the crowd and then the rhythm begins as the crowd settles down until silence awaits my performance. I sing Dreams by The Cranberries to my fans as they get drunk on the words. The concert lasts for hours at which time I play my closing song, Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer. When I finish, I blow a kiss to the audience and yell, “Thank you. Don’t forget who loves you."

What would you do?

I've watched the ABC show What would you do? and find it interesting how people react to situations, along with the different responses and reaction from/to the genders.


Here are some of my “What would you do?” questions.

1) After many years, you finally meet someone and fall in love. S/he takes your breath away and you find yourself thinking about them when apart. Even when you’re not in the same room with them, you feel comfort in knowing they're not far away. One night, your lover gets into a fight wit
h your best friend, a friend who has been with you for years. Both attack the others character and both declare they never want to see the other one again. Your lover tells you to break all ties with your best friend. What would you do?

2) You just find out your first born a seven year old isn’t your child. After you delivered, they accidentally swapped babies. What would you do?

Heaven’s white dust

Sprinkles heavily down

Ice encased trees

Limbs frozen in time

Makes everyone sneeze

Its power sublime

Children get dirty

Fingers kissed by the cold

Running carefree

What a sight to behold

Sunny tomorrow

Cheers hibernated souls

Melts winter fresco

Starts one’s personal goals
