A Change We Need

Many people dislike change because they grow comfortable with what they're accustom to, good or bad, or because change represents the unknown. But here we all wait for inauguration day, along with the rest of the world, and our hopes embrace change. Whether we supported this soon-to-be President, we find ourselves wanting the unknown. To get relief from these hard economic times, and bring us together again as The Free Country we once were in strength.

Abraham Lincoln said, "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced." How wrong President Lincoln had been with that statement. The living remembered and so many have died fighting for causes supported by our Constitution. There is still so much more work to be done, but I believe Obama's change will move us forward." Maybe President Lincoln had Obama in mind when he said, "that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom... " That's how I see this new Presidency, as a new birth of freedom, not just regarding color, but for birthing change and making it work for every person in America.

I am an Obama supporter, and find him to be symbolic. He has black and white blood running through his veins blending us together to promote a colorless country. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "In a sense we have come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir... But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficent funds in the grat vaults of opportunity of this nation." Martin Luther King Jr. must have heard President Lincoln and pushed forward to cash that check opening doors and giving Barack Obama this opportunity to lead our country. It also means, as Americans, we are all responsible in upholding our forefathers' words and working to make a positive change.

I wish the Obama's well in their new home and will pray their safety isn't jeopardized because some fear change.
