Vow

Two stray souls search in the mist
Where beauty passes their eyes
Alone on a quest for happiness
This ageless wonder parts the skies

Two prying souls open up
Soon unforeseen treasures unveil
Feelings rise quickly to worship
Absence is what we prevail

Two trusting souls ready to bond
Lives deepen with pleasure and joy
Words entice, our bodies respond
Thoughts and desires meet when we join

Two souls unite, the Angels smile
Fates knotted, eternity waits
Their hearts match, so versatile
We are what is called, "Soul Mates"

You know You’re In A Recession When…

- You hitchhike to work.
- You use your hair as floss.
- You start running out of interview responses so you quote Jeff Foxworthy when asked why you left your previous employer. “You moon the wrong person at an office party and suddenly you're not 'professional' anymore.”
- Your headhunter is in your Fave 5.
- Your dinner consists of samples from the grocery store.
- You use tape to hem your pants.
- You put a sign outside your cubicle that reads, “Will work for food.”
- Your real estate agent puts your house up for sale on eBay.
- You start eating the lunchmeat from your co-workers sandwiches.
- You call your financial broker and their voice mail says, “Please leave a message and I will return it as soon as I post bail.”
- You barter with your dental insurance company to at least pay for your top teeth cleaning.

How do you know you’re in a recession?

Zipper Effect

Mean sky.  Brutal rain.  Wind asking for attention.  Within a half hour chairs flew, people took cover, and the train rocked against the anger of Mother Nature.  She had no sympathy on Friday, and refused to remain silent as we went about our lives.  I sat watching objects fly about until the rain coated the windows and the wind got into a shoving match with the train.  During my journey, things eased to a brooding mode until I made it home and then another tantrum began.

Mother Nature caused a zipper effect.  I remained indoors watching her crack tree branches, dump water in large quantities and throw lightning through the sky.  Such fury had me wonder if Zeus’s Aphrodite denied Mother Nature of love, because that’s what I was denied the next day.  My cable was out, which consequently cut me off from the internet until early this morning.  The internet is the only cheap mode of communication I have with the love of my life.

As time sauntered through a day of recovery, I felt zipped up tight unable to chat, check emails, or do anything else I rely on the internet which turns out to be plenty.  The idea of not having television didn’t bother me, but my dependency on the internet is like a drunk to the bottle.  I write, network, read, send and receive emails, and interact with people across the street or many miles away.  I’ve built friendships with a click of a button and now Mother Nature pushes me indoors and zips me up from the world.

But sometimes a zipper effect isn’t so bad.  It leads us to dialogue without technology, and allows us to be free for a moment from everything else in the world.  We can forget about violence, oil spills, a politician’s snafu, a celebrity’s addiction, and focus on ‘us,’ so when we unzip, we have a better understanding of ourselves.

What weather conditions created a zipper effect for you?

What's Weird?

It’s weird, but I can’t help…

I Believe

A little something I wrote from a writing prompt.

I believe today and every day is a beginning.  A beginning of something great, or a major downfall, but each day we get to start whichever one we choose.  Each step we take in life leads us to another door, down another hallway leaving us with so many choices.  But it’s not the good or bad choices that make a difference in life.  It’s knowing that we made them.

Good choices allow us to prosper.  What’s important though is realizing the beauty of the choices and feeling blessed that it’s the path we chose.  Just like understanding the bad choices we’ve made so we can move on towards a new today.

Even though dreams might fade from many nightmares, or a shooting star plummets then disappears, we can always begin again.  We have that freedom, and we have that power.  Hold onto every day like it’s a new wish or dream.  Be thankful for the big and small things you have because they changed your life today and everyday there on.  When you picked a good day, smile at someone who didn’t, and when you pick a bad day, remember the next is a new beginning.

Doors close and sometimes loneliness makes us think it’s our only friend.  But I believe.

Lord Stanley's Cup Is Ours!

Tweeted and shouted, “Let’s Go Hawks!”
With not enough minutes for us to talk
Before sticks and puck went into action
Hope Hossa or Kane won’t lose their traction

It’s been forty-nine years since the day
Shots were blocked by goalie like Niemi
To help seize the game with a four-three win
And fill Lord Stanley's Cup with some gin

Chicago, our kind of town loves their teams
While we sit and watch them live our dreams
So remember every time you hear a bell ring
It means some Flyer player just lost a wing

Come Back, Let Them Smell the Ice!

I watched tonight,
your broad confidence
shrinking from frostbite

Each puck shoved in
made me tense, curse,
and wonder, ‘Where’s the gin?’

Punished by the box,
normally given as a prize,
for your lack of blocks

Your efforts fell short,
adversary team won
this high maintenance sport

Mighty Blackhawks return
White City of adoring fans
clench Stanley Cup hard earned

What a Secret?!

I never told you…

Flashback Wednesday!

It’s 1976 and you’re looking for your bell bottom jeans to wear with your angel shirt for a night of dancing hoping to meet someone like Tony Manero.  I, on the other hand, was a bit young to go out looking for Tony, but not too young for the Bay City Rollers.  I had a crush on Alan and Stuart and I remember my sister blaring S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night.  So, for all you men and women who want to reminisce, here’s a little something from the good old days.

After you stop by, reminisce, dance around your living room, and make the moves on your love, share one of your favorite oldies.
